Coffie wins Taysec Golf

Vincent Coffie returned a bogey score of plus six to win the maiden Taysec Construction Limited Golf Championship played at the Achimota Golf Course in Accra on Saturday. Nicholas Quarshie took the second position with a plus of five after he beat Dave Ingle on count-back, while Adrain Bain placed fourth with a plus of four when he also beat H.R. Na on count-back. In the Ladies encounter, Mary Asafo-Adjaye came first with a plus of three, Florence Etwi-Barimah placed second with a square score, beating Clara Price on count-back while Betty Sowah Allotey placed fourth with a score of minus one. The 'Longest Drive on Hole 15' award went to H. A. Gouvinus while the Ladies award went to Beatrice Vetch-Bempong. The one-day 18-Hole Bogey competition which was opened to amateur golfers attracted more than 120 participants. The competition which used to be called Taywood Bowl for over 40 years is now known as Taysec Cup following the change of ownership of the Taysec company. Mr Nick Railston-Brown, Vice Captain of the Achimota Golf Club praised the company for their immense contribution towards the promotion and development of the sport in the country. He expressed the hope that other corporate bodies would contribute towards the development of the sport. Mr Geoff Fisher, Chairman and Managing Director of the Taysec gave the assurance that the company would continue to assist the Club in its developmental programmes and ensure that the competition was played annually. The Managing Director was assisted by Mr Anthony Morgan, Commercial Manager and Mr A.Y. Abrebese, Financial Director to present the 'Taysec Cup' to the winners.
