Kwabena Kwabena and Daasebre Gyamenah To Salvage Highlife

Contemporary Ghanaian highlife will this year gain another boost as two of the most prolific singers outdoor their latest albums. In the past week, there was a lot of media blitz concerning the upcoming albums of highlife singers Kwabena Kwabena and Daasebre Gyamenah. Although, the highlife genre has been suffering over the years due to the rapid growth of rap music in Ghana, some staunch highlife musicians are strong in their resolve to sustain the good old tradition. Since his introduction into the music industry a decade ago, Daasebre has remained one of the most vital forces in contemporary highlife music to date, with a string of hits to his credit. In spite of his trial and acquittal for drug trafficking charges in the UK, the singer believes that his fans still remain loyal to him. Talking to Yaw Sakyi on the Rundown last week, Daasebre hinted that his last album was a massive success in terms of sales in spite of the low rotations on radio and TV. Daasebre also expressed hope that his new album would follow in the success of the last (post incarceration) album. The lead single Me Gyi Apem is already enjoying airplay. According to the singer, the songs signifies an end to doing stuff for free and he hinted that this time around, if anyone wants Daasebre Gyamenah to do any shows, its going to be payment upfront.
