BA@50 commemorated with a Health Walk

The Brong Ahafo Regional Co-ordinating Council at the weekend, organised a health walk, to create awareness among the citizenry on the need to stay fit and healthy. It formed part of activities marking the 50th anniversary celebration of the creation of the region. Mr Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, the Regional Minister, led the security personnel, chiefs, keep-fit clubs and scouts to cover a distance of 8.4 kilometres through some principal streets of Sunyani, accompanied by a float and brass band music. They later converged at the jubilee park where the regional sports development officer, Mr Paul Wilson, took them group through some physical exercises. The Regional Minister stressed the importance of exercises and announced that a Miss Brong-Ahafo @ 50 Beauty Contest would be held on October 17 as part of the celebration. The winner will receive as her prize, a trip to the United States of America, while the first runner up will take a trip to any European country with the second runner up, a trip to any African nation. Mr Marfo urged both citizens and non-citizens to participate in the anniversary celebrations to ensure its success. A medical team from the regional hospital accompanied the health walkers and offered free screening for hypertension, high blood pressure and diabetes for members of the public. The event was sponsored by Techiman-based, Ghana Nuts Company.
