Ghana coach Avram Grant has warned that lack of funds will hurt the country's chances of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The Israeli says the country must provide the necessary facilities to ensure the right preparations if the Black Stars are to win their matches in the upcoming 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
The Black Stars were faced with extreme difficulties ahead of Saturday's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda culminating in the 1-1 draw against the lowly placed side in Accra on Saturday.
The players of the national team were forced to pay their own air tickets to play the match against Rwanda after Sports Ministry claimed there were no funds to fly them in. The pitch of the stadium was also in shambolic state as the Black Stars were held on a 1-1 draw against Rwanda.
The former Chelsea coach's disappointment was topped by the pitch's poor state after his side struggled paid for their own air tickets to play the match because of the sports ministry's claim that there was no money. The chaotic build up to the match which included the ministry's order that only home-based players must be used compounded problems.
The Israeli manager says if Ghana is to achieve success the necessary facilities must be provided to ensure success in the qualifiers which start next month.“During the match, I asked one of the stadium managers to put water on the pitch . He told me there was no money for fuel, which was unfortunate," Grant said in a post-match interview with the press, Grant said.
“If we want the best from our players, we must give them the necessary tools to get the best out of them.”
Ghana will start their World Cup qualifiers next month and they will face Egypt, Congo and Uganda in a group of countries eager to seal qualification.
