Set up policies on HIV/AIDS - Eric Akobeng

The Gomoa West District HIV and Aids Focal Person, Mr Eric Akobeng has urged all corporate entities, to initiate workplace policies on HIV/AIDS to protect workers from contracting the virus. Mr Akobeng gave the advice at the District Aids Committee (DAC) meeting at Apam. He expressed concern about the alarming rate at which the virus was spreading in the district despite the stringent measures put in place to sensitise the people about HIV/AIDS. Mr Akobeng, who is also the District Budget Analyst, cited the Apam Catholic Hospital, which recorded 90 new cases of HIV, from July to September. He commended the District Assembly for the prompt payment of its one per cent contribution from the District Assemblies' Common Fund to DAC for HIV and AIDS activities. Mr Peter Antwi Boasiako, District Co-ordinating Director asked members of the committee, to consider the negative impact the virus has had on the national economy and intensify the sensitisation programme. He assured the committee of the assembly support to reduce the spread of the virus in the district. Mr Edmund Osei Kwakye, District Disease Control Officer said every health facility in the district had counsellors who advice People Living With HIV/AIDS on how to get medical attention. He asked the people to go for voluntary testing to know their HIV status.
