Ghana’s Richard Commey says that he is owed another bout against Robert Easter Jr following his split decision loss to the American on Friday Night in Reading, Pennsylvania.

The two men put their unbeaten run on the line as they went for the vacant IBF Lightweight title.

They both opened up and fought in hopes of securing a knockdown but it went the distance.

Commey managed to get Easter Jr to the canvas in the 8th round but he was also rocked by overhand right in the 12th and to observers, that punch tilted the encounter in the American’s favour.

Easter Jr won 14-113 , 115-112 and 114-113 on the cards via a 2-to-1 decision but after the bout Commey said that he thought he had won and he had to be given another opportunity to fight Easter again.

“I feel like I won this fight. I did everything that I could. I landed the more accurate shots. I come from very far and it’s hard to win here versus an American. I deserve a rematch.

“I was very devastated when I heard the scores. I knew it was a close fight. He went down and I didn’t.

“I want to be a world champion. Even if he doesn’t want to fight me, I want another opportunity. I can fight at the highest level in the world. We worked so hard to get to this stage. I want to stay at this level. I’ll keep improving.”

Easter Jr. acknowledged Commey’s abilities and said that the Ghanaian demanded a lot from him in the ring.

“We knew it wasn’t going to be easy. Richard Commey is a tough, tough competitor. He made me fight each and every round, but we did it.”
