Nigerian Blows $15,000 on Beccas Birthday Bash

Some buried details of the classy birthday bash organized in August for Ghanaian singer, Rebecca Acheampong otherwise known as Becca, on her 24th birthday celebration at the plush Sweeties Night Club at the Airport Hills in Accra, are beginning to make themselves palpable. NEWS-One has gathered that City People Media Group, the Nigerian outfit which organized the celebrity flooded and widely publicized birthday party, spent over $15,000 on the party, something which its Ghanaian counterparts would hesitate to do. Even though the papers sources are very reliable, Mr. Tope Aileru, the companys representative in Ghana failed to confirm or deny the figure when contacted on telephone. I cant give you the exact amount that the party cost but definitely we cant do a party for free, the party, which attracted hordes of celebrities among whom were Ghanaian goddess of the screens Jackie Appiah, Majid Michel, Nollywoods Ramsey Noah, Samini, VIP, 4x4, Doreen Andoh and producer-turned-actor Fred Nuamah, was said to be an extraordinary bash. According to eyewitnesses, it was the organizers own way of honoring and appreciating the efforts of the young Ghanaian afro-pop diva, whose chances of rocking the international scene, they say, are inevitable. Tope Aileru told NEWSONE that Becca is the next African singer to liberate African music on the international scene; hence his outfits (which owns five different magazines in Nigeria) decision to be associated with her. We deal with the public and we see it as our responsibility to celebrate people who the public celebrates. We have done it for several Nigerian stars like P-Square, DBanj, 9ice and a number of Nollywood actresses. Becca is our first in Ghana. This certainly would not be the last. Becca, I must emphasize, has a great talent which is going to transcend African music beyond the shores of Ghana and Africa as a whole. This is the first time a non Ghanaian organization has come down to organize such an event to appreciate a local star. But Beccas manager is less than pleased with the development. Hear him: it is sad and very painful that we always sit down for foreigners to come and show us the way. We dont appreciate our stars. It has taken somebody from outside to come and tell us that our artistes are good before we accept it. Becca is about to launch her charity project and all the sponsorship she had are coming from Nigeria. It is not even from cooperate bodies, it is ordinary individuals trying to help her raise money for kids in her own country. It is pathetic. I think people should think about other ways to appreciate our artistes. Must we always wait for our neighbors to come and show us the way? he asked rhetorically. He revealed that Becca caught the eye of Nigerian tycoons when she granted a radio interview in that country recently. She was asked when she celebrates her birthday and she mentioned it. As soon as the show ended, City People Media Group called me and requested to organize a birthday bash for her, he concluded.
