Samini Presents MAMA Award To MTN

Samini on Thursday announced that he would begin a nationwide tour with "big concert" on November 14, 2009 at Kumasi. "I apologize to my fans for the repeated rescheduling of my planned nationwide tour and I can assure you that I will start the tour with a big concert in Kumasi on November 14, 2009," he said at a short ceremony where he presented his recently won award to the Chief Executive of MTN, Mr. Brett Goschen. Samini won the Best Performer in Africa Award at the recent MTN Africa Music Awards (MAMA). Even though the MAMA is a Zain event, Samini is an MTN Ghana icon so he presented the plaque to MTN. When the GNA asked Samini's manager if he would do a similar presentation to Zain, he said "no sir." Samini said he dedicated the award solely to his mother "who everybody knows I love so much", adding that he could not have won the award without the support of MTN and his fans. He noted that MTN came to him at a critical time when he was re-branding himself from Batman to Samini, and that MTN made the re-branding a huge success. "Since I joined the MTN family I have gotten nominations upon nominations and won many laurels both locally and internationally. "MTN makes me feel like a 'dada b' - I feel like a president right now, in fact I am a happy boy," he said amidst loud laughter. Samini said the "huge" MTN brand was a challenge for him and he is determined in his heart to keep up his game to meet the challenge by putting himself deeply into his stage performance, saying that his effort had paid off. He assured his fans that he would continue to deliver big hits in the years to come. Mr. George Andah, Chief Marketing Officer assured the public that MTN would make the Samini nationwide tour happen, saying that November 14 was a special day in Ghana as Ghana's Black Stars would play a match the following day in Kumasi. "we will hit Kumasi with the Samini concert big time." He said MTN's relationship with Samini had paid off in the hit jingle and TV advert Samini helped MTN to deliver, plus the laurels he kept winning across the world, adding that "Samini is now our partner." "We chose Samini not because he was already a big star but he exhibited the MTN values by showing that even though he had a challenging background he would not settle for less but go on to achieve bigger things no matter what today's achievement is," he said. Mr. Brett Goschen MTN's Chief Officer expressed his gratitude to Samini for helping to make MTN number one in Ghana and urged him to "go - Samini go, go to achieve success after success."
