Three Companies Donate To Achimota Golf Club

Achimota Golf Club in Accra has developed a youth programme to help develop the talents young golfers in the country. The Club has so far registered 60 youth who are being trained and it is expected that they would soon join their senior counterparts to popularize the sport. Mr Mike Ezan, President of the Club announced the programme when three companies presented cheques of various amounts to support the Club's 75th Anniversary Golf Championship in Accra on Friday. MTN Ghana, the title sponsors of the event, donated 35,000 Ghana cedis and 2,000 Ghana Cedis worth of products, Guaranty Trust Bank Limited presented 22,500 Ghana Cedis while CAL Bank Limited gave out 10,000 Ghana cedis. The celebrations which is under the theme, "75 years of Friendship in Competition" would be climaxed with a two-day Scratch competition, which will begin on October 24 and end on October 25. President John Evans Atta Mills is expected to take the ceremonial tee-off on Saturday, October 24. He praised the companies for their assistance and expressed the hope that other companies would help in the development and promotion of the sport. Mr Ezan discarded the notion that golf was meant for the rich or affluent and urged parents to encourage their children to take active interest in the sport. Mr Clement Asante, Senior Manager of the Consumer Department of MTN Ghana said his company was committed to the promotion and development of sports in the country. He said MTN has introduced Mobile DSTV Service to offer the sporting public with the chance of watching live the World Cup in South Africa on their mobile phones and asked the golfers to take advantage of the service. Mr Asante gave the assurance that the company would continue to support sporting activities in the country and in the ensuing years.
