Give It All Adotey Urges Black Maidens

Coach of the national Under-17 Women’s team, Evans Adotey, has urged her players to give their all as they prepare to face Paraguay on Saturday in the ongoing FIFA Under 17 Women’s World Cup in Jordan.

The Maidens lost their opening Group D encounter by succumbing to 5-0 throbbing by Japan but bounced back to clinch victory against favourites, USA, to place them in a very comfortable yet tricky position to progress to the next stage of the competition.

Ghana’s chances of progressing to the next stage of the competition will also be much dependent if results go in favour of the USA in the other Group D clash against Japan at the Ammam International Stadium.

Briefing reporters after the team’s training session yesterday, Coach Adotey said: “After losing 5-0 to Japan, we knew a defeat or even a draw would virtually knock us out. We had to win at all costs, which is what we did, and against the USA as well. It keeps us in the hunt for a place in the group phase.”

“In 2012 we reached the semi-finals and in 2014 the quarters. We had only one thing on our minds when we came here, and that was to get to the knockout phase. That’s what I told the players, despite the defeat to Japan. We’re here to get past the first round,” he noted.

Another inspiring performance will be required from midfielder, Adizatu Mustapha, Gifty Acheampong, and Captain Sandra Owusu-Ansah to redeem all the maximum points from Paraguay.
