Ghana FA Vice President Slams Andy Yiadoms Call-Up

Ghana Football Association vice President George Afriyie says he would prefer to have Avram Grant invite Turkey-based Samuel Inkoom ahead of Barnsley defender Andy Yiadom.

Yiadom was handed his debut call-up by the Israeli training after he was named in the 23-man squad for the World Cup qualifier against Egypt.

Inkoom on the other hand was ignored by the former Chelsea boss despite his impressive performance for Antalayspor in the Turkish top-flight.

The 25-year-old has been unable to earn a call-up to the senior National team since the appointment of Avram Grant.

George Afriyie in an interview with Asempa FM says he prefers Inkoom ahead of Yiadom.

“I did not know of any player called Andy Yiadom until Avram Grant added him in his list of players for the Egypt game,” he said.

“I am being honest because there are a lot of Ghanaian players who are playing in Europe.

“It was during management committee meeting that he explained that he watched him when Barnsley played Newcastle United in a Championship game.

“If I were to be the coach of the Black Stars, instead of Yiadom, I would've preferred either Samuel Inkoom, Godfred Saka of Aduana Stars or Yaw Frimpong of T.P Mazembe for the right back position because they are tried and tested.

“However, I’m not in that position to select players for the team so I will have to go with Grant's decision," he said.

He added: "Since Andy was not born in Ghana and has had stint with England before, we are waiting for a clearance from Fifa next week. Without that clearance, he cannot take part in the game on November 13. The coach trusts him so we must also throw our weight behind him and see what he brings on board.

Andy Yiadom is currently in the Black Stars team in Dubai preparing for game in Egypt.
