Organizers of the MUSIGA Academy based at NAFTI have been tasked to develop and enhance the capacities of those in the industry to better engage partners such as business people, legal professionals and entities in the value chain to create economic opportunities that generate financial and allied resources aimed at national development.
The call was made by Carl Ampah a UNESCO Programmes Officer at the launching of the MUSIGA Academy at the National Film and Television Institute {NAFTI} in Accra. He said the support given to the MUSIGA Academy by the Skills Development Fund of the Council for Technical, Vocational, Education and Training is a crucial example of the efforts being made by governments globally for the development of skills for the workforce.
The Rector of NAFTI, Prof Linus Abraham speaking at the launch indicated that the establishment of the MUSIGA Academy is a first step after which it will become part of NAFTI’s certificate, diploma and degree programmes. He said the Academy will be integrated into the MUSIGA Music Production Department of NAFTI with MUSIGA serving on the board of the department to ensure that the nature of the training is geared towards fulfilling the needs of the music industry in Ghana. He added that the department will run courses in music theory, composition, performance, recording and engineering and marketing.
On his part, the MUSIGA President Bice Osei Kuffour noted that the developments in the industry makes it crucial that players in the music industry upgrade their skills consistently to be abreast with the changes in the industry. He expressed MUSIGA’s appreciation to the SDF of COTVET for the support for the Academy.
In all 120 participants will be trained in ten subject areas, four of which are core subjects and six specializations. The modules are in Studio Specialization, Western Instrument Specialization, Traditional Instrument Specialization, Copyright and Publishing, Music Business Management, Using ICT for Career Development, Centre Stage Grooming and Vocal Techniques, Music Theory and Musicianship, Survey of Music In Ghana and Songwriting, Composition and Arrangement.
