Gyataba Declares Support For Mahama

Disqualified flagbearer of the United Front Party (UFP), Agyenim Boateng, has thrown his party’s weight behind President John Mahama, going into the 2016 general elections.

At a news conference in Accra yesterday, the flagbearer otherwise known as Gyataba said the National Executive Committee (NEC) of his party arrived at that decision because of the unity in the NDC.

“While the leadership under President Mahama is worthy of emulation, that of the NPP under Akufo- Addo is tainted with disdain and acrimony”, he indicated.

Gyataba who traces his roots to the NPP expressed UFP’s admiration for the intra-party unity and togetherness during President Kufuor era as flagbearer and stated that, though there were internal skirmishes that could not result in hostilities and that the NPP was more united than ever.

“However, under the Akufo leadership; particularly in the build up to the 2016 elections, the NPP has been on the battle front with disunited armies”, he alleged.

Agyenim Boateng thus said, UFP as the name of the party implies, cannot declare support for a party under the leadership of Akufo-Addo that does not ride on the shoulders of unity.

He admitted that the NDC was noted for violence and disunity, under ex-President Rawlings to the disadvantage of former President John Evans Atta Mills, but President Mahama has been able to close all the ranks of his party and they are currently at the battle front with a united front.

He said their decision was in the right direction because they have studied both manifestos of the NPP and NDC and have come to the realization that most UFP policies were in tune with the NDC manifesto and not because he wants a ministerial position in the next Mahama administration.

“More so, having taken cognizance of the developmental projects in the country of the ruling NDC, especially in the area of infrastructure, we at UFP have seen the NDC as a more attractive sister political party to partner with”, Gyataba asserted.

Meanwhile, UFP still stands by their Parliamentary Candidates in the various constituencies of the country.

Gyataba was flanked by his Vice Chairman, Communication Director, Deputy Communication Director, Women’s Organiser and Treasurer.
