Corporate Life Affecting Early Childhood Development In Ghana

Early childhood education is the best and demands commitment from the parents.

The support should not only be in terms of finance but also with good relationship, conducive and friendly environment for the Childs wellbeing.

Undoubtedly, early childhood education has the potency of affecting the future of any nation by serving as a foundation upon which all other educational levels rest thereby nurturing children with skills, attitudes and competences necessary for individual and national development.

The increasing demand of corporate work in Ghana has made children especially those in the cities not to feel at home, lacking interactions with parents and most importantly disciplinary practices.

The process of nurturing young children to achieve this begins in the earliest stages of life and heavily depends on the efforts the family i.e. mother and father, but due to schedule of parents, children are not nurtured properly the way it should be in Ghana.

There are instances that children wake to see none of their parents at home throughout the week; psychologically the child will be affected and will adapt to the training of the house help instead.

Formally, in a typical Ghanaian family setting, both parents endeavor to raise the child with outmost attention despite financial constraints but in recent times the family having everything at their disposal give less attention to the early development of the child.

Parents in recent times have now shared their responsibility with house helps, who virtually do everything for the child even when the parents are present. Parents do not have ample time to visit their children at school or track their performance.

Responsible parenting includes the provision of a safe physical environment, close monitoring of children’s activities, supervision of their behavior, fostering their socio-emotional and cognitive competencies and providing directions and guidance in daily life.

Early Childhood Development entails the Provision of a safe and stimulating environment, which allows children to play, explore and discover.  This process can exponentially increase the child’s chances of flourishing, attaining an optimal level of development and later becoming a responsible and productive adult.

Early childhood care and education in recent times has been formalized by most countries thereby allowing private and public investment in helping children to optimize their potentials to augment care from family with systematic social, physical, cognitive, and emotional child development.

The sustainable development Goal 4 states that obtaining a quality education is the foundation to improving people’s lives and sustainable development. Major progress has been made towards increasing access to education at all levels and increasing enrolment rates in schools particularly for women and girls.

Basic literacy skills have improved tremendously, yet bolder efforts are needed to make even greater strides for achieving a sound household to improve the development of early childhood.

The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child recognizes that for the full and harmonious development of a child’s personality, he or she should grow up in a family environment, in an atmosphere of happiness, love and understanding.

Conclusion, childhood education gives children the best start in life. It has the potential of producing a positive and lasting effect on the child. It is, therefore, necessary for all parents to make it a point and a commitment to avail themselves in the house in order bring smiles on the faces of the children.

Admittedly it’s a fact that parents have to be industrious to attend to the needs of the children but it also advisable parents get in touch with the children to enhance a healthy child hood development.
