I Didn't Sack Shirley Frimpong Manso From Stage Out of Respect! DKB

Ghana’s King of Comedy, Derrick Kobina Bonney (DKB) has reacted to a “rude” intrusion by movie director/producer Shirley Frimpong Manso last Sunday night, while hosting the 2016 edition of Ghana Movie Awards.

In an effort to reunite two actresses, Nana Akua Addo and Zynnell Zuh, who have traded insults at each other on social recently, DKB decided to patch up things between the two, were on stage to jointly present an award.

DKB’s first question was the ice breaker: “Why were you people fighting?” Actress Zynnell Zuh, who appeared stunned and thought it was one of DKB’s numerous jokes, responded “Errm, she (Akua) had a problem with Bibi Bright and Bibi is not here”.

DKB then encouraged the ladies to hug and make up, but while the crowd was clapping for both actresses to unite and hug for peace, award-winning movie producer Shirley Frimpong-Manso walked up to the stage, grabbed the mic from DKB and started talking. said “I don’t think this is right, these are two adults, they should know peace, they should not be put up to this”.

Shirley then walked off the stage, while a man who followed her on stage grabbed Zynnell off the stage.

Although many have commended DKB for not slamming the respected movie producer, the comedian has reacted to what he describes as a very disappointing move on Shirley’s part.

“I didn’t sack Shirley from the stage because of the respect I have for her as an old cat in the business. She is someone I look up to and she inspires me with her focus on a particular genre (of movies) and perfecting it, as I’m also doing with comedy.

“I felt disappointed, violated and abused because I have a lot of respect for her. I would have sacked her from the stage because she wasn’t even part of the script, she wasn’t invited to the stage,” DKB noted.

Meanwhile, Nana Akua Addo, who did not walk off the stage after the encounter, said she vouches for peace, and that she is ready to reconcile with her colleague(s) in the industry.
