I Wish I Could Join Ghana@60 Committee - A Plus

Outspoken hiplife musician Kwame A Plus has applauded the President Akufo-Addo for setting up a committee to plan the activities of this year’s Independence Day celebration.

Ghana gained independence in 1957 and will celebrate its 60th anniversary on the 6th of March 2017.

Ahead of the celebration, the president on Thursday, announced the setting up of a committee to spear-head the planning activities.

The Planning Committee would be chaired by Mr. Ken Amankwah with the deputy chief of staff Samuel Jinapor as Vice Chair.

The 30-member committee inaugurated by the president is also made up of representatives from various state institutions such as Representative from the Vice President’s Office, Director of State Protocol, Chief of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chief Director at the Presidency Director, Finance and Administration at the Presidency, Director Budget at the Presidency and Representative from State Protocol amongst others.

The decision to set up a committee ahead of the country’s diamond jubilee raised concerns among a section of the public.

Reacting to some of the concerns raised by members of the opposition, NDC, on the setting up of the committee, A Plus emphasized the importance of the committee and declared his support for the idea.

He insists that for the celebration to be worthwhile, there was the need to put people in charge who will take responsibility for everything.

“I think that it is very important to put that committee together, it is very very important…if we want to go to Zoomlion to seek sponsorship for disposing off refuse during the cleanup exercise for Ghana @60. Even that we need someone to go and seek sponsorship. Even if it’s not for free we need someone who will negotiate for a reduction in cost, so I wish I am part of the committee, I wish you are part of the committee”

He urged those who have concerns not to focus on the essence of the committee but rather the output of the committee and the money they will spend in the course of their work.

He was confident that the committee set up by the President will emulate the act by the transition team who worked without taking allowance due them.
