83 People Died In 1st Quarter In Ashanti From Road Accidents

The Ashanti Region recorded 83 deaths in road crashes in the first quarter of 2017 as compared 78 in the same period under review in 2016.

According to statistics from the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), the region from January to March this year recorded a total of 200 accident cases, 83 persons killed and 127 others suffered broken bones and cuts.

The Ashanti Regional Director of the national Road Safety Commission (NRSC), Samuel Asiamah said the latest figures is disheartening and worrying; stressing that about 90% of the road accidents recorded in the region was as a result of human error and could have been avoided.

He further stated that the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) in conjunction with the Ashanti Regional Police Command, Motor Transport and Traffic Division (MTTD) and the Ghana Fire Service are putting many efforts to curtail the number of road accidents in the region.

Samuel Asiamah, the Ashanti regional NRSC Director urged drivers to abide by road signs tor educe the carnage on the roads within the region, emphasizing that the Police and the NRSC will arrest and prosecute drivers for nay driving misconduct.

He advised passengers never to hesitate in reporting any driver found flouting driving regulations spelt out by the commission for their own safety.
