CAF Vice Presidency An Honour — Nyantakyi

The President of the Ghana Football Association Kwesi Nyantakyi, has described his confirmation as the first vice-president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), as a honour, as well as a responsibility to ensure that the flag of Ghana is yet raised high in world football.

He also describes the new appointment as an opportunity to help the new CAF president achieve his dream of enhancing the legacy African football has bequeathed the world.

Yesterday, Mr Nyantakyi received an overwhelming confirmation from the CAF Executive Committee (ExCo) having been nominated by the new president, Ahmad Ahmad to serve as the first vice president. Democratic Republic of Congo’s Constant Omari who was nominated  as the second vice president, was also endorsed and approved by delegates at the CAF General Assembly held in Bahrain yesterday.

Mr Nyantakyi who hinted the Graphic Sports about his nomination a few weeks back, yesterday told the paper that the overwhelming confirmation he received from the ExCo members was further proof of how well respected Ghana football was at such high places and has thus been given a responsibility to deliver to that standard.

“Ghana football is respected at CAF both technically and administratively and the approval I had from my colleages at the ExCo is further indication. More than it being a personal achievement, I see this new appointment as a responsibility to ensure that the flag of Ghana is further raised higher as my predecessors who had the chance to serve at CAF, held it aloof,” Nyantakyi said.

“I’m also excited about the fact that I have been given the opportunity to help president Ahmad to achieve his set agenda for African football. Indeed, the vice president’s role is complimentary and I intend to play it as effectively as I can,” Nyantakyi who last March got re-elected to serve on both the CAF ExCo as well as the FIFA Council, told the Graphic Sports on telephone from Bahrain, where a FIFA Congress is ongoing.
