Ghana National Chamber of Commerce (GNCC) has called on government to come clear on the implementation of the one-district, one-factory initiative.

According to GNCC there is little clarity on how the one-district, one-factory project will be implemented.

The call was made by the President of the GNCC, Nana Dr Appiagyei Dankawoso I, at the chamber’s industrial forum on the one-district, one-factory policy dubbed: “Leveraging on the one-district, one-factory policy for Private Sector growth” in Accra yesterday

According to him, the business community has a number of critical questions regarding the initiative that needed urgent answers and adequate information for decision-making.

“As a natural ally of government and the representative voice of the business community in the country, the chamber is enjoined to engage government at various levels of the implementation process of policies and programmes that are of commercial and industrial value,” he said.

Nana Dr. Dankawoso I disclosed that his outfit has started working intensively in mobilising information for selected industries (with agriculture and agribusiness on top of the pecking order) for value chain analysis and development.

Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, who was at the forum, threw more light on the ‘one-district, one-factory’ policy.

According to the sector minister, the one-district, one-factory initiative by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has received very enthusiastic response from the business community both local and international.

“As at last week Friday, the ministry had received over 150 proposals including business plans, feasibility studies and expression of interests from various parts of the country, covering varied economic interests” Mr. Kyerematen said.
