Jackson Film Passes $200M Barrier

The Michael Jackson concert documentary This Is It has now made more than $200m (120m) at cinemas worldwide, according to its producer Sony Pictures. Of that total, about 30% - $61m (36m) - came from the US and Canada. Made up of rehearsal footage for the late performer's ill-fated comeback shows, Kenny Ortega's film opened worldwide on 28 October. Sony initially planned to screen the film for two weeks but has now extended its run until early December. The documentary made more than $20m (12m) on its first day in cinemas. According to the company, its success is partly down to Jackson fans seeing the film more than once. Currently second in the UK and Ireland box office chart, This Is It has so far made 8.5m on these shores. In Japan, the movie has grossed almost twice that amount - the equivalent of $27.2m (16.3m) in local currency.
