Upper Denkyira West DCE "Should Be Dismissed With Immediate Effect" - Kweku Baako

Seasoned journalist, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has called for the dismissal of the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Upper Denkyira West in the Central Region, Daniel Appianing.

The DCE, speaking to Adom FM in the wake of the lynching of the late Maxwell Mahama, shared no pity over the incident.

To him, the late Military Officer was murdered because he was a leader of a Military detachment deployed to the community to protect some Chinese illegal miners.

The DCE noted the late officer was at the locality on a specific mission to protect the Chinese nationals who are illegally mining gold in the Upper Wassa Forest.

“There is a large number of military personnel protecting the Chinese that the lynched soldier is alleged to be part of, in fact he is said to be the leader . . . I am shocked they are not briefing you very well but rather claiming they are here to fight galamseyers . . . He was the leader of the soldiers protecting the Chinese galamseyers, anyone can confirm it from the police hierarchy here, and the BNI as well,” he said.

But Kweku Baako wants the DCE sacked with immediate effect.

According to him, the DCE has shown he is incompetent and his statements, seditious.

Mr. Baako stated emphatically that if the DCE is not dismissed, he would spark disaster in the area because his claims could incite the residents to perpetrate crimes.

“He should be dismissed with immediate effect. And it’s not because he said things that he felt he had to say but factually, what he said is not even the case . . . He should be dismissed. Call him to come to Accra and he should come along with his dismissal letter and hand over to the Minister . . . They should remove him quickly. It’s clear that he’s not going to be on top of his job. They should sack him, I’m convinced if they leave him there, it will be a disaster. I’m telling you. He doesn’t know his job and also does not take his time to make his checks. And then, he goes on to say things to inflame passions," he stressed.

Though he disclosed that the lynching of the officer may have a link with illegal mining activities (galamsey), he however believed the DCE would worsen matters.

“My hunch tells me that it has more to do with galamsey than armed robbery . . . My mind’s eye can see clearly that it is some of the consequences of anti-galamsey. It’s unfortunate but no matter what the investigators will find out the truth."

" . . He’s feeding into that thing that the soldiers stationed there are doing unauthorized and illegal operations. So, why won’t people get angry? Why won’t galamsey elements – mafia in the galamsey operations – take advantage of that and do things that they have been trying to do for a long time anyway?” he questioned.
