Samini Tour Update

If last Saturdays concert at the Heroes Park, Baba Yara Sports Stadium, was to test why he won MAMAs Africa best performer, then, Samini comfortably proved it. Really, Kumasi did enjoy the first of his four-destination nationwide tour dubbed Samini Experience Ghana 2009, which came off very successfully at the Heroes Park, forecourt of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi, where over 5.000 Samini fans came to see what the King of African Dancehall had promised them for the past fortnight in the media. The tour bus plus other entourage made up of 72 crew members and performers eventfully stormed the garden city on November 12, 2009 amidst live radio coverage on media partner station, K-FM. Kwame Dzokotos Drive show on Hello FM was the teams first studio interview. By then Samini had done several interviews on his way to Kumasi by phone. Later on, he was joined by MTN management members on the tour for more interviews. Kumasi based musicians Okyeame Kwame, Lord Kenya and Bradez showed Samini around. The following day, hundreds of Samini fans stormed the venue at around 3pm during his sound check session. At 7pm when the doors were opened, the crowd started pouring in. Not even the brief down pour (rain) an hour into the programme, could deter Samini-hungry fans. The show opened with the all-female dance quartet SUPERBABES, who did a splendid mix of various dance choreographies, solo and dance battle, all in a ten-minute dance piece. They were followed by an outstanding stage act by R&B dude SL (Skinny Legend), then Zionites of Samini Music rocked some vital dancehall vibes. The stage was then left for a minute each freestyle by eight of Kumasis best underground performers with support from Kumasis number one DJ, Andy Dosty. MTN used the platform to give out two KIA Sorento vehicles to proud winners in its on-going txt GO to 2010 promotion. The second session of the jam saw Okyeame Kwame doing 30 minutes of live band performance. Lord Kenya proved he is still Kumasis local favourite with performances packed with stage gimmicks. When it got to his turn, Samini pulled a stunt, appearing on stage from nowhere. It will take much creativity for any musician to get on stage like the way Samini did, I must say it was an outstanding stage craft. I can not give a perfect picture of the way Samini got on stage but imagine the crowd surrounding Samini as he gets down from his SUV to take photos of him. Samini walked boldly under the stage, the next thing every body saw was Samini on stage. He actually did appear from under the stage after a brief sequential video of him detailing the last few minutes before the show till his appearance. And for the next 78 minutes, the crowd would grow even hungrier until they were very satisfied. Samini mounted the stage at 11:25 and rocked it steadily and comfortably for 78 minutes, doing almost all his hit songs since Linda. Half way through, he did songs of his mentors, Kojo Antwi and Bob Marley. Samini ended the show with his number one song, Baby. The party continued at the Genesis Night Club where all performers went to relax and had personal time with their fans. Next, the Samini Experience Ghana Tour moves up north and stops at the Tamale Sports Stadium on the 28th of November. Takoradi Jubilee Park hosts Samini and his team on 5th December and then to the final showdown at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium in Accra on December, 19.
