E/R NDC against public criticisms of President

The Eastern Regional Branch of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) has expressed surprise and displeasure at the way some members of the party are openly criticizing the government. A press release issued by the Regional Secretariat of the party in Koforidua on Wednesday, said the criticisms were contrary to the good performance of President John Evans Atta Mills government within the 11 months in office. It said Ghanaians voted for the NDC on the basis of the pledges the party made in its manifesto. The release said it was therefore fair to use the promises made in the document as the basis to judge the performance of the government. The release expressed faith in the government of President Mills and called on all Ghanaians especially members of the NDC to support the government and desist from criticisms that only distract the Executive from its course. The regional branch expressed confidence in the 2010 budget, which the members said catered for all segments of the Ghanaian society. The release explained that the government inherited a budget deficit of 20 per cent with shocking revelations of mismanagement and misapplication of huge sums of money by the previous administration. It said members of the party should not be echoing tunes of the opposition who are less informed about the party's programmes. The release said the party clearly stated what it would be doing for the first 100 days in office, the first year, the second year and at the end of its first term.
