Editorial: Image Of Police Service

Although we all appreciate the difficulties confronting the Ghana Police Service in terms of logistics and remunerations, it is important they do not renege on the constructional duties upon which they were commissioned. It appears some personnel in the serve enjoy being referred to as corrupt officials if not the most in the country. Some personnel openly demand bribes from drivers before they will allow them pass. Extorting money from drivers, motorists and other road users have become common on our roads. This will not augur well for the countrys image if we still hope for genuine investors into the country. The Inspector General of Police, Paul Tawiah Quaye, ought to stamp his authority and weed out the born criminals who are tarnishing the image of the institution and his reputation as well. They are threat to peace and security. The Crystal Clear Lens joins Ghanaians in condemning this practice in the service. We insist that the Police Service can perform well if the born criminals are ward off from the service. This can be done if the IGP only makes it a policy of his administration.
