Hearts Whip Kotoko as Arsenal Maul Liverpool At Anfield

Ten-man Hearts of Oak secured their most important win of the season after defeating their arch rivals Kotoko 1-0 in Ghana's biggest game on the calendar on Sunday. But ugly scenes overshadowed the beauty of the post-match celebration by the Accra side as Kotoko goalkeeper Soulama confronted referee Samuel K Gyasi. The fans of the Porcupine Warriors were charged into violent acts as they threw objects onto the pitch in support of their goalkeeper's actions before the police intervened. Despite the ugly scenes, Hearts will celebrate their victory over their traditional rivals with gusto thanks to a first half strike by Samuel Affum. Both sides had decent chances to alter the score especially for Kotoko when Hearts defender Karim Alhassan was sent off later in the game. Hearts goalkeeper Philemon McCarthy produced an excellent save with only one minute remaining to deny the Kumasi-based giants. The victory gives Hearts the edge in their mid-table fight as the Phobians now have 13 points while Kotoko remain on 10 points. But the two Ghana giants are way off the mark in the chase for the title as the league is being led by Kessben. But the log leaders suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to newly promoted Aduana Stars in Dormaa Ahenkro. Eleven Wise, helped in their central defence by former Ghana defender Dan Quaye, managed to hold title contenders Heart of Lions to a 0-0 draw in Kpando. Wise, coached by former Black Stars captain C. K. Akonnor, are in the relegation zone and their away draw will go a long way to help them beat the drop. Great Olympics travelled to Kumasi to hold King Faisal to a 1-1 draw while Wa All Stars deepened the woes of Hassacas with a 2-1 away win in Sekondi. Bechem Chelsea also got an away victory as they defeat New Edubiase 2-0 but fans of the home side were terribly unhappy over referee William Agbovi's handling of the game.
