Editorial: Let The Axe Fall!!

A release signed by Colonel Emmanuel W.K. Nibo, Director of Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces says that the Military High Command (MHC) has instituted some disciplinary action against the two soldiers who have stripped-naked some suspected criminals a couple of weeks ago in Bawku. The release said the incident clearly was a case of indulgence in abuses or excesses by the personnel involved, adding, obviously, this kind of conduct is unacceptable to the Armed Forces Command and regrettable. We at the Daily Searchlight would want to reinforce our earlier position that the whole stripping incident was sadistic, distasteful, and most unfortunate to say the very least. Now that the MHC, anf or that matter, the GAF has seen wisdom in our earlier criticism leveled against it and has, according to its Public Relations Director, sanctioned the culprits involved, we can only hope and believe that the rest of the soldiers will take a cue from this. The MHC may want to consider publicly naming the two soldiers involved in this bestial and satanic act so their identities are not shielded in any way to serve as a deterrent to others who might be nursing such unnatural act. We think that protecting the identities of these brutes will means one thing: sending wrong signals to the effect that the MHC partially condones and connives with their sordid act, which may not necessarily be the case. On this note, we call on the GAF and other security forces to ensure the maintenance of peace and security in the country instead of indulging in uncivilized and inhumane actions that do not auger well for the image and reputation of Ghana. To the MHC, we say let the axe fall and fall heavily!
