Minority: "PNDC/NDC Regimes Incurred 90% Of Judgement Debts"

The Minority in Parliament has accused the PNDC/NDC regimes of being responsible for the bulk of court judgement debts including land compensation against government, which according to the 2010 budget stood at about 560million Ghana cedis or 380 Million Dollars. According to the Minority, about 90% of court Judgement Debts including land compensation paid by government from January to June 2009 amounting to 42.6 Million Ghana Cedis in respect of 34 cases could be traced to the PNDC/NDC regimes rather than the NPP regime. The Minority caucus made the assertion today at a press conference addressed by Hon. Joe Ghartey, Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice and currently the Minority Spokesman on Legal and Constitutional Affairs. The Minority cited the payment of redundancy and terminal benefits of ex-workers of the defunct GIHOC, compensation paid to the family of Carmichael for the seizure of their property, claims paid to Alhaji Yusif Ibrahim and others in respect of the demolition of a hotel near the Kotoka International Airport by the AMA, and the payment of claims on the seizure of the International Tobacco Ghana Limited belonging to Mr. B.A. Mensah, as examples of court judgement debts attributable to the PNDC/NDC regimes.
