Lion Descends On Political Leaders

Minister of State at the Presidency, Nii Laryea Adotey-Agbo, has cautioned political leaders to be mindful of their undertakings since a day will come for them to render accounts. He observed that in democracy, people determine who should be their leaders at a particular time with the expectation that they will meet their desires. He noted, however, that, after a period, the people will then assess those leaders who performed creditably and endorse them again in future elections. Nii Afotey-Agbo, who is the Member of Parliament for Kpone-Katamanso constituency in the Greater Accra Region, was speaking in an interview with The Enquirer after his constituency held their executive elections last weekend. He therefore urged political leaders to be fair and strive to satisfy their followers since they will surely go back to them to seek their mandate in the future. He charged them to desist from all forms of malfeasance, misappropriation and corrupt tendencies. On his view of the differences and agitations from the former president and some members of the NDC that, the government is slow in delivering its promises, he indicated that, they are all fair challenges that are good for the party at this early time since all emerging problems would be solved and ironed out before the next elections. Its always the philosophy of the NDC to have its members air out their concerns and views, he said. During the elections, 103 delegates from the 37 party branches in the constituency re-elected the incumbent Chairman, Mr Ellis Afari, who thus retained the position. He polled 55 votes to defeat his closest rival, Mr Samuelson Allege, an assemblyman, who had 35 votes. In his acceptance speech, Mr Afari, thanked the members and pledged that he will extend a hand of friendship to all critics and friends, and help push the party forward.
