Veep: Volta Region and Brong Ahafo To Get Public Universities

The Vice-President, Mr. John Dramani Mahama says NDC government made a commitment to Ghanaians to promote a system of Excellent Tertiary Education. This is to enable the nation to acquire knowledge and training that will produce first class citizens, in today�s knowledge based economy. He said in fulfillment to the promise NDC made during the electioneering campaign to establish public universities in Volta Region and Brong Ahafo, a National Planning Committee is in place to plan the projects. Vice-President Mahama stated these when he inaugurated a 26-Member National Committee termed National Taskforce, which is to plan the establishment of the two Universities. The one to be built in Volta region would be University of Health and Allied Sciences and in Brong Ahafo it will be University of Energy and Natural Resources. The Vice-President said government believes that developing a strong human resource base is a prerequisite for building a vibrant economy. The policy coordinator of Policy Unit of the office of the President, Dr. Christiana Amoako-Nuama on her part said Private Universities are doing well but we need more public Universities that will be more affordable to many people. The chairman of the planning committee, Professor Sefa Dede, of University of Ghana thanked government for the honour to serve but asked that resources and logistics be given them promptly to deliver on time.
