"Obesity" Will Kill Your Gov't – Ofosu Kwakye To Akufo-Addo

Former Deputy Minister of Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu says the current 998 staff at the Presidency is an abuse of the public purse.

According to him, "it is obesity that will kill the Akufo Addo government".

The president on Friday released a list of 998 staff working at the seat of government to Parliament.

This is in pursuant to section 11 of the Presidential Office Act, 1993 (Act 463), which requires the President to submit annually a report on the staffing position of the Office of the President for the attention of Parliament.

This figure has however been strongly condemned since the ruling government also criticised the Mahama administration when they were in opposition.

In a Facebook post Kwakye Ofosu said: "Folks read for yourself the abuse to which President Akufo Addo is subjecting the public purse which he swore to protect....There are 27 Presidential Staffers, 256 'junior political appointees' and 706 civil servants, making a total of 998. To put this in perspective, President Akufo Addo has 220 more staff than President Mahama had.

The most bizzare designation on the 998 strong Presidential staff list is "Overseer of the National Cathedral" in the person of Dr Paul Opoku-Mensah who is number 86 on the list. Above everything else, it is obesity that will kill the Akufo Addo government".
