I Sing About Marijuana But I’ve Never Tasted It – Shasha Marley

After taking the music scene by storm with songs like, “Maata Family”, “Twin city mafia”, “Buum Buum – Waa Waa” and many more, of his successful, “Lost and Found” album, Shasha Marley seems to have laid back to observe the scene.

For he has been silent in the game for the past years without any significant record to keep his name alive like how he started. But then, it looks like he wants to announce his return as his recent interview with Radio 1, 100.7fm sparked controversy.

The Sekondi-Takoradi born artiste speaking to Bishop Abbey Jnr who doubles as host of ‘Ayekoo’ drive show posited that despite the fact that he has so many songs that hails marijuana, he has never had a taste of it.

According to him, the Ghanaian culture doesn’t permit the smoking of cannabis and that’s the reason why its legalisation has become a major problem in Africa unlike the Western World where it has been legalised.

When asked upon further interrogation whether he would consider smoking marijuana when legalised in Ghana, he recalls a past memory of a friend who nearly got mad after being addicted to marijuana smoking.

“I remember back in my school going age, one of my friends nearly got mad after smoking this marijuana. So since then, it has never occurred to me to try it at all”, he revealed.

On record, there has been increasing discussion in public circles on the tenets of legalization of marijuana in Ghana. Unfortunately, most of the discussions in the public have all been based on moral justification and exaggeration of the effects of the marijuana plant with scientific evidence thrown out of the window.
