‘What Is Stopping You From Putting Out The Facts’ – Gabby Asks NIA

Former Executive Director of the Danquah Institute, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko has reacted to the controversies surrounding the National Identification Authority's Ghana Card registration exercise.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has raised concerns over the supposed $1.2 billion allocated for the national identification project.

According to the party, the amount is alarming and in contradiction with President Akufo-Addo’s mantra of “protecting the public purse.”

The Ghana Card registration exercise failed to commence again after several assurances with the last one being last Monday.

Gabby in a facebook post described the situation as ‘mightily frustrating’ and asked the authority to state their case.

"I don’t understand what the National Identification Authority is doing. Mightily frustrating. You are being bashed left, right and centre over a $1.2bn contract for the ID cards. My reliable information is that the NPP inherited an NDC contract which lawyers advised that to get out of it would lead to judgment debt. So, the contract was renegotiated and significantly improved. What is stopping the NIA from putting out these facts! It gets so annoying. You cannot be incompetent in stating your case when you have a good case. I’m getting really frustrated!" he wrote.
