Former President John Dramani Mahama will retire from active politics in 2020 after being defeated again by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, a top New Patriotic Party (NPP) member, has predicted.
Kennedy Kankam, the NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Nhyiaeso in the Kumasi Metropolis, has stated emphatically that Mr. Mahama would clearly be a mismatch for President Nana Akufo-Addo in 2020.
He stated that if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) members in the country have hope that Mr. Mahama can lead them to wrest political power from the NPP, then they should quickly rewrite their notes.
According to him, President Akufo-Addo has used just 16 months in political office to bring renaissance into the country and so he would easily win a second term on the ticket of the NPP in the 2020 general election.
He said all the major problems that the Mahama-led NDC government created and left behind after losing the 2016 polls, had almost been rectified by President Akufo-Addo and his team of competent officials.
“Take it from me, if the NDC presents Mr. Mahama as their presidential candidate for the 2020 presidential elections, President Nana Akufo-Addo will beat and retire him from politics”, Mr. Kankam said on Hello FM in Kumasi.
According to him, some NDC members have been bragging lately that Mr. Mahama can lead the NDC to unseat President Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP during the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections.
“Those NDC members should take it from me today, the NPP is not afraid of Mr. Mahama and indeed our presidential candidate would hand to him another embarrassing defeat, should he lead the NDC in 2020.
“President Nana Akufo-Addo easily beat Mr. Mahama mercilessly in 2016 and if he dares make attempt at the presidential throne again, the NPP shall repeat the dose on him”, the Nhyiaeso MP stated with confidence.
Mr Kankam, who sounded sure of another NPP victory in 2020, stated that the free Senior High School (SHS) policy alone by the NPP administration is capable of securing the party a second term in political office in 2020.
