GPHA Boss Poised To Achieve Results

The newly-appointed Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Michael Achgwe Luguje, has promised to map out strategies to ensure the advancement of the Authority.

Mr Luguje promised to discharge his duties effectively to improve the strategic asset of the country.

He made the remarks in an interview with DAILY GUIDE after he was introduced to senior management members of the Authority by the Transport Minister, Kweku Ofori Asiamah on Tuesday.

He stressed that he would ensure that the ports continue to compete with others in the sub-region to make Ghana the gateway to West Africa.

“Of course progress has been made by the port authority already but the more you succeed, the more responsible you must be to ensure that you never retrogress, so I am coming to ensure we will be able to progress in that manner,” he stated.

He appealed to the workers to rally behind management to move the ports forward.

“My job is to try and see how best we can move above whatever storm and start afresh and it is going to include different perspectives.

Touching on problems confronting the unions of the Authority, the acting Director General pointed out that he would work with the unions to ensure peace and harmony.

“It’s unfortunate what happened. In other parts of the world, unions are key partners for management, and partnership here is not being friends to management but bringing feedback from the field, because if you are doing your job well that is when you can advise your boss better as how to improve it.

“So if you appreciate that role and you are ready to share your own objectives, then your boss will be glad to have that information to assist you to perform better.

The former Executive Secretary of the Ports Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA) was appointed by President Akufo-Addo following the dismissal of Paul Asare Ansah.
