Captain Smart’s Pistol Seized

Police in the Eastern Region on Saturday afternoon seized a pistol belonging to Adom FM’s Morning Show Host, Captain Smart, at the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Delegate’s Conference underway at the campus of the Koforidua Technical University.

It is unclear why the man known in real life as Blessed Godsbrain Smart, took the gun to the venue in the company of his four personal bodyguards, who were all dressed in khaki uniform.

A national security operative who is part of the security detail of the President and Vice President, ASP Benjamin Effah Adu, told citinewsroom.com that he was informed by one of his colleague’s about the presence of the four uniformed men.

ASP Benjamin Effah Adu said when he approached the men and interrogated one of them; he established that they were Captain Smart’s personal bodyguards.

He later approached Captain Smart himself who confirmed that the men were indeed his personal bodyguards.

He said “I quickly went there and saw them in a khaki uniform. They had handcuff and pepper spray with them, so I asked who brought them, and they told me Captain Smart. At that time Captain Smart was interviewing the Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Asenso, so when he finished, I asked him if he brought the men and he said yes. Then I told him that I have to report them to the authorities, so I went to the Deputy Regional Police Commander and informed him about the case.”

“When we searched them we saw a police belt with a police crown on it. We saw a pistol on Captain Smart made from Italy, but I can’t confirm if he’s registered it. I asked why he had to bring the pistol when the security is assured, and he said it’s his personal pistol and that he’s registered it; and we saw other gadgets with them. Eventually we handed all of the men to the Eastern Regional Police Command.”

According to the Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, Captain Smart and his men were eventually released after their arrest, although his pistol and knife which was folded in the form of a walking stick together with other offensive weapons from his bodyguards, have been seized.

He said the matter has officially been taken over by the National Security.

Citi News’ Marian Ansah says when she later approached Captain Smart; he declined a comment on the matter.

About 6,000 delegates of the NPP have converged on the campus of the Koforidua Technical University to elect national executives for the next four years.

Nearly every key member of the party who matters, including the President, his Vice, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, ministers of state and members of parliament are attending the conference.
