Hearts Climb League Ladder

Defending Champions Accra Hearts Of Oak started the new year on a blissful note with an emphatic 3-0 win over Berekum Arsenals at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium yesterday, intensifying their ambition of defending the league title won last season. The Phobians are yet to lose a match since going down 0-2 to Wa All Stars in the eighth week and the win thus moved them up on the league table to fifth, the first since the 2009/2010 Glo league season began. Striker Eric Gawu scored twice in both halves, opening the flood gates in the 43rd minute of the first half with a beautiful goal whilst Samuel Affum got the third. Arsenals, who are yet to win a league match against Hearts since joining the elite league some nine years ago, failed to live up to expectation despite playing some fine football. They thus dropped to sixth position on the league ladder but have equal points as Hearts. They both have 21 points but the Phobians have superior goals. In Sunyani, Asante Kotoko also continued their resurgence when they posted a 1-0 win over Bechem Chelsea with former RTU striker Kabiru Imoro being the hero of the day. Imoro scored the only goal of the match in the first half. The victory was the Porcupine Warriors first away win since the league started and it brought some relief to 2008/09 Best Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin who appears to be getting his rhythm back. Kotoko have thus moved from the 11th position to the ninth position with 18 points. Elsewhere, AshGold continued their fine form in the league when they won 2-1 away at Essipong while second placed Aduana Stars run away with a 1-0 victory at home to visiting Great Olympics. Wa All Stars moved to the third position on the league when they beat leaders Kessben FC 2-0 at the Wa Sports Stadium. The woes of King Faisal deepened as Liberty recorded a victory over the Kumasi lads at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Faisal still lie bottom of the league with 10 points whilst Hasaacas are 15th with 12 points. Other Results Kpando: Lions 0 - 0 RTU Obuasi : Edubiase 2 - 1 Wise
