SIC To Maximize Insurance Reach With Technology

The days of selling insurance manually will soon be over with a technological innovation to be introduced by the State Insurance Company, (SIC).

Managing Director of State Insurance Company, Stephen Oduro says the goal of the company is to ease the distress of its clients and not add to it, and as industry leaders, SIC will show the way for others to follow.

Interacting with media personnel, Mr. Stephen Oduro said SIC would soon pilot the sale of insurance on Point of Sale (POS) terminals and collection of claims via mobile money.

”The industry has evolved so insurers do not have to wait for clients to come to them. Insurers will come to you, key in your details and show you your statement.  People should be able to sit behind their computer and buy their insurance. SIC is working to get to the point when customers would have instant payment of claims as is done in other jurisdictions”.

Mr. Stephen Oduro said SIC under his leadership and the new board of directors will strive to improve the 2% penetration rate of insurance in the country with the introduction of this novelty as well as sensitization.

SIC will therefore collaborate with institutions like the National Insurance Commission (NIC) Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA), Ghana Police Service and Ghana National Fire Service for easy detection and fraud prevention and prompt claim payments.

Deputy Managing Director of SIC in charge of Finance and Administration, Richard Adu Poku further elaborated that SIC is maximizing technology to enhance efficiency within the organization. Consequently, the company has begun automating and digitizing all its documents.

He further posited that training programs designed to build on the capacity of staff and align their strengths to the new tasks is in place as a result of the reliance on technology in place. This is being done to ensure a customer-centric workforce poised for excellence delivery.

SIC has so far paid Ghs 13 million in claims in the first half of 2018. The period of claims payments currently spans one day to two weeks.  As a means of making collection of claims easier, it is further exploring the option of making payments to the designated accounts of clients once all verifications relating to the lodged claims have been made.  This is by virtue of the value SIC places on its cherished clientele who keep the company in business.
