African Nations Cup: No. 10 Shirt Is Not A Burden For Ghana Midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah

The number 10 shirt is revered as sacred in football and to wear that number you must be exceptional among your peers. However, youngster Kwadwo Asamoah, opines he does not feel that pressure as he gets ready to put it on for the African Cup of Nations. "The number 10 is just a number. It has been worn by some of the greatest names in Ghana football but it is about what I can do on the field, what I bring to bear on the team and I hope I can do that positively for the team," the Ghana midfielder stated to kickoffghana.com. "It is not a burden for me that many people expect me to do well. I am a football player and anytime I get on the field I will do my best. But this game is about teamwork and with my colleagues I think we can do really well." African football legend and Ghanaian Abedi Ayew Pele made the number 10 shirt famous in his days with the Black Stars. Substantive but injured skipper Stephen Appiah has also kept the respect that comes with the shirt and the onus lies on Asamoah to stand the test of time. The youngster notes he is excited to carry the hopes of the four-time African champions but was quick to add he cannot do all the work alone. Serbian Coach Milovan Rajevac is on record to have said the player would play an instrumental role in Angola 2010. "Kwadwo Asamoah was a very important player for us in two key qualifiers and unfortunately he got injured which slowed him down a bit. But he is back now and picking up and I hope he will hit peak form again not just in Angola but the world cup too because he is our most important creative player at the moment," Rajevac stated.
