A substantial part of Government business could come to a standstill if the Supreme Court does not act with dispatch on litigation between the Government and Mr Sam Okujeto, a leading member of the new Patriotic Party (NPP).
Mr Okujeto is going through the judicial process to try and establish that his removal from the Board of the Bank of Ghana and the appointment of new board members is unconstitutional therefore illegal.
Aspects of the case have gone through the High Court, Court of Appeal and now the Supreme Court which is yet to make a determination. Meanwhile, the Board of the Bank of Ghana is unable to function because of the cases pending in the courts.
Mr Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, Governor of the Bank told Joy that substantial business of the bank has been stalled as a result of the litigation. Some cheques have not been signed and other financial transactions are awaiting the decisions of the Board, which has been incapacitated by the litigation.
It is speculated that if the litigation is not brought to a satisfactory and quickly end, it may even be difficult to pay Government workers in February. International donors are also said to be deeply worried about the state of affairs at the ban of Ghana. The disbursement of foreign loans may also suffer serious setbacks.
