Detractors Of NDC Caused Earthquake Hoax :NDC National Propaganda Sec.

Newly elected Propaganda Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Richard Quashigah is accusing political detractors of the ruling NDC government as being the brains behind Mondays rumour scare of an earthquake that kept most people gallivanting around their homes. Mr. Quashigah argues that political opponents of the NDC with the sole aim of diverting attention from the peaceful nature of the NDCs National Delegates Congress held in Tamale over the weekend, are responsible for the mischief. It is common in politics when your opponents know you have chalked some great success which would up your image and make them less favourable with their target audience and the electorates then they need to throw up something that would bury that good news and take away the attention, he said in an interview on PEACEFMs Kokrokoo. Most Ghanaians in the early hours of today, Monday, January 18th, kept vigil following reports of a possible earthquake to hit the country. A cross-country report from regional correspondents and surveillance indicate that people moved out of their rooms by midnight; noticeably family members and household tenants to avoid any calamity. Others took with them some of their belongings and stood outside their rooms for several hours, with the hope that they would be safe. By midnight, the streets were flooded with people who had vacated their rooms for safety. The newly elected NDC Propaganda Secretary, who stopped short of naming those he thought could be responsible, however, said the hoax did not hit like a bolt from the blue but was only concerned about its timing. I was not surprised at all when I heard this rumour, we did our check and realized that nothing of that sort was about to happen and that it could only come from political detractors of the NDC who are not comfortable with the news that the NDC has travelledand held such a historic and peaceful event..when we get to Accra, well issue a statement on the incidentand you can draw your own conclusions if its the NPP or some other party, Richard Quashigah added. In a related development, government has tasked the National Security to investigate the source of the earthquake rumours. In Ghana, there is the probability of an earthquake rocking the southern parts, especially along the coast. But the capacity of Ghana to contain an earthquake of a lesser magnitude (earth-tremor), than that which occurred in Haiti, is in doubt.
