Traditional Council team pip Police team

The Techiman Traditional football team beat a Police select football team 1-0 in a friendly match played at the Methodist Park to usher in the New Year. The match was initiated and organised by Nana Joseph Ackesson, Chief of Atabuorso and sponsored by Nana Apenteng Fosu Gyeabour, Hansuahene and Baamuhene of the Techiman Traditional Council. Nana Gyeabour provided a set of jerseys costing GHC600 to each of the teams. Alhaji Abubakari Sadick Oheneba, Kentenhene, who is also the Dabrehene was the captain of the Traditional Council team whilst Superintendent Joseph Antwi Gyawu, Techiman Municipal Police Commander led his side. After referee teacher Atta Manfred blew his whistle for commencement of the start the game after a kick-off by Oseadeayo Akumfi Ameyaw IV, Omanhene of Techiman, it was the Police team which made their first attempt to fetch the opener but Nana Antwi Boasiako, Akyeamehene in post for the Royals denied them when he made a marvelous save of the kick. The Chiefs took the challenge and led in attack by Nana Foasi Gyan and Nana Barima Gyan Katakyie they made several incursions to score but their efforts were thwarted by the resilient Police defence. In the 43rd minute referee Manfred sent out constable Danso, a Police striker for rough play when he was shown the red-card. After the recess, the Police team dominated the game with brilliant combination by ASP Seth Werempe, the Municipal Crime Officer, Superintendent Gyawu and ASP Osman Mahama as they put the ball in the net in the 67th minute but the effort was disallowed by the referee. Nana Kwame Kwain, Kyeremakanihene came in for Nana Ackesson in the 75th minute and from then they capitalized on their numerical strength to create a lot of chances from which they earned them a free-kick. Striker Nana Kwain perfectly connected home through a header in the 80th minute from a brilliant strike by Nana Foasi Gyan as he displaced constable Wallas Arhin in post for the Police. Addressing the spectators after the match, Oseadeayo Ameyaw IV, said that the match was aimed at building bridges between the Chiefs and Police, as well as the residents to promote good relations and ensure good health in the communities and also serve as a source of entertainment. Oseadeayo Ameyaw called on other social partners and civil society organisations to come together and play friendly games, adding that in an atmosphere of peace, development will always thrive through government interventions and peoples support. The Municipal Police Commander Supt. Gyawu commended the Chiefs for organising the match saying that it would go a long way in helping to strengthen the relationship between both parties especially in crime prevention. The Omanhene later presented a GHC 400 silver cup and a set of jerseys to the Police team.
