We'll Take a "Political Decision" Not An Emotional One - Awuku To Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituents

National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku says there is no need to attach emotions to the contest of who takes over from late Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko.

He says the ruling party is looking for the best candidate to take over the seat and that it's not ready to dabble in any marital issues.

News broke yesterday that the two wives of the late MP are at each other's throat; seeking to outwit each other for the seat of their late husband.

It is unclear what started the whole brouhaha but a group is said to have petitioned the party insisting that the first wife, Naana Agyarko should be the only candidate allowed to contest.

Sammy Awuku speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', Tuesday, cautioned constituents to "be careful because this is a very painful loss" and that the party will not spare anyone who goes against the party's laws and/or constitution.

Mr Awuku further disclosed that the party intends to select a candidate and not to elect one to avoid the whole process of filing for nomination and others.

"We are clear in our minds that we don’t want to go for an election; we want to select a candidate . . . first of all, I am the party’s National Organizer, not a marriage counselor and so I can only speak on political issues. The party will not recognize which candidate is the first or second wife; it is not in the constitution; it is about the best candidate. We will take a political decision when we get there, not an emotional decision," he added.

Meanwhile, the second wife of the late MP, Lydia Alhassan has debunked claims she intends to contest for the seat.

She said even though she has heard of the campaign for her to contest, she is not interested.
