Fashion Designer Goes In 70 Years for Robbery

Dauda Karim, a fashion designer, has been sentenced to 70 years imprisonment by a circuit court in Kumasi for robbing two drummers of GH�40,000 and mobile phones. Karim denied the offence. Two accomplices are on the run. Police Chief Inspector Archibald Kwesi Fandoh told the court presided over by Mr Justice Emmanuel Amoh Yartey that the robbery victims live at Nkwantakese in the Afigya-Kwabre District whilst the convict residents at Mbrom in Kumasi. Prosecution said at about 4pm on August 26, 2007, the victims decided to visit Kofi Mensah, leader of a drumming group of which they are members. Chief Insp. Fandoh said when they got to behind the Danny Pharmacy, an Opel caravan taxi suddenly pulled up ahead to them. Prosecution said Karim and his accomplice, armed with locally manufactured pistols, jumped out of the taxi and ordered the complainants to surrender their cash and cell phones. The victims complied with the order and the armed robbers also took away a hand bag containing personal effects. When the complainants spotted Karim at Ashanti town later, they raised an alarm and he was arrested and handed over to the police.
