Mr. Mahama Showcasing His Ballot Was A Bad Precedent-Andy Owusu

It is quite irresponsible for anybody to showcase his ballot paper after voting at any elections or a referendum. So, it was mind boggling how Mr. Mahama as a former president showed openly his vote to set a very bad precedent at the just ended referendum on the Savannah.

Voting in any polling station has always been secret and it becomes really unfortunate if any person showcases his or her vote cast.

Aside it being an act of indiscipline, it's also against the rules of the conduct of an elections like such in Ghana to openly show the vote you cast at any polls. So, it becomes really unfortunate for Mr. Mahama who should know better to exhibit his vote to the eyes of everybody.

As a young democratic nation, it's also very much of a bad precedent to be set by a personality like a former President. An unacceptable precedent which should not be set by a former President who some people look up to.

It's find it very disgusting how the picture of Mr. Mahama showing his vote in the referendum circulating on the social media.

So, how are we going to address it as a country, what if our teaming youth do same? Would they be punished or this unacceptable act would be accepted from today?

To prevent any further showcasing of votes by the young and any other Ghanaian, I call on the Electoral Commission and the NCCE to educate persons like Mr. Mahama who may always want to show their ballots to desist from those acts and strictly follow the rule of the secrecy of the ballot.

I also call on the civil society organisations to condemn this unacceptable act by Mr. Mahama.

To Mahama, it would be best you apologise for such an unacceptable conduct.

Signed
Andy Owusu.
