AFAG wishes Ghanaians a prosperous new year.  We hope that 2019 would be the beginning of a positive turnaround in the economic fortunes of Ghanaians as the government renews its commitment to honour its social contract with the nation.

There is no doubt that the past two years have been tough for many Ghanaians. This cannot be blamed squarely at the doorsteps of the Akuffo-Addo-Bawumia government though. Some of the challenges were inherited; others accidental and the rest, beyond the control of the government. In other words, some were necessary bitter pills to swallow.

A typical case is the banking reforms, which was necessary to sanitise the banking system to protect depositors and empower the banks to undertake huge investment funding.

As the nation is well aware, the reforms cost the government a whooping GHC4.6billion Ghana cedis. Additionally, interest payments on maturing loans run by the Mahama government alone have run into GHC7.6billion. Imagine investing these commitments in the economy in the form of basic infrastructures!


OUR RESOLUTIONS


In 2019, AFAG expects to see a comparative price analysis of government projects between the erstwhile NDC and now. In opposition, a lot of noise was made on bloated contracts by the NDC government. The onus now lies on the Akuffo-Addo –Bawumia government to prove these allegations to Ghanaians of bloated contracts and show proof of cost competitiveness of it projects comparatively to the NDC.
After two years in office, AFAG asks the government to show proof of the massive corruption campaign waged against the past Mahama administration by prosecuting the corrupt elements among them.

Failure, AFAG requests the government to apologise to the nation and erstwhile government for hounding them with falsehoods.

AFAG expects the government to act on these not in the shortest possible time but now!
