NPP & NDC Are Like Cancer; We're Going Nowhere! - Sammy Awuku

Sammy Awuku, National Organizer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has challenged the National Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to devise ways to create better employment for members of the party's vigilante groups.

Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" regarding a gory incident that occurred at the NDC Regional Office in Kumasi a couple of days ago, Sammy Awuku called on his colleague to exploit the expertise of the vigilante group members so as to end their penchant for violence.

When asked whether he would subscribe to the idea to disband party vigilante groups, Sammy Awuku told host Kwami Sefa Kayi that the "boys" pose no threat to the nation and that their priorities should be set right.

He noted that he believes in re-engagement with the youth (basically those who form the vigilante groups) by creating descent jobs for them.

Acknowledging the existence of the vigilante groups as a creation by the both political parties - the NPP and NDC - Sammy Awuku urged Ghanaians to believe in the parties to do the right thing.

“NPP and NDC, we’re like cancers to you the citizens. We’re going nowhere. So, help us to reform and make our politics neat,” he stated emphatically.

To him, the call to disband the vigilante groups is premature but rather he would "throw a challenge to the NDC colleague National Organizer" to "come to the table with honesty. Let’s jaw-jaw, let’s find solutions on this growing unemployment in the system. How for us as both youth leaders, both as organizers, both as party leadership; how do we channel the energies of these young men into productive use. So, I will not go with the idea that some of them are not employable”.
