The Concerned Citizens of Sefwi, a group comprising mainly the youth in the Western Regional town of Sefwi, is up in arms with the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, headed by President Mills, over what it claims are unfair representations in government. The youth group, numbering about 500, has threatened to hit the streets to force the government to heed to their request. Speaking to Peace FM news, the Spokesman for the group, Julius Gabriel Ackah, lamented that in spite of the Sefwi area being noted as a NDC stronghold, this is not reflective in government or ministerial appointments. �Apart from the Volta Region, Sefwi is noted as an NDC stronghold�but we�ve no major representation in government�in the 1st NDC government headed by Ex-President Rawlings, 4 seats in Sefwi voted overwhelmingly for the NDC, likewise the 2nd NDC government under President Mills� yet we have only one Minister in the person of Hon. Evans Paul Aidoo, Western Regional Minister,� he bemoaned. He accused the four Paramount Chiefs (Wiawso, Ahwianso, Chiraa and Bekwai) in the area, of abandoning the youth to their fate, whiles they enjoy in the comfort of their homes and breath in quality air and drink clean water in Accra. �We have four paramouncies in Sefwi, yet none of these chiefs live in Accra. They are enjoying clean air in Accra whilst all our link-roads are dusty�.We also lack quality drinking water�.There are many corporations and governmental organizations, yet no one was offered an ambassadorial position or asked to serve on any board�. Hon. Kwesi Ahwoi (Minister for Food and Agriculture) claims to hail from Sefwi, but during vetting he told the committee that he is half-Fante, half- Ga�. How can one person hail from all these areas?� he asked. Whiles denying the involvement of any political party in their action, the group issued a February 11th deadline to government for an appropriate response to their concerns, or they will embark on a protest march. �Let it be known that no political party is behind this�just that the youth in Sefwi want a fair representation and we want an official response, otherwise we will hit the street by next week Thursday,� he warned.
