Indece Day: Ghanaians Urged To Actively Participate In “Rally Round The Flag” & “Rep The North” Events

As part of the 62nd Independence Anniversary celebration, Deputy Minister of Information, Pius Enam Hadzide, has entreated Ghanaians to hoist emblems of the Ghana flag throughout the 1st March.

He has also enjoined the public to clad themselves in smock on the 6th of March dubbed "Rep The North", since the celebration will take place in Tamale in the Northern Region of Ghana.

He said the Akufo-Addo government in an effort to defuse partisan politics on the day of celebrating the country’s 62nd Independence Anniversary, has decided to encourage all Ghanaians to support the “rally round the flag” by erecting Ghana Flag in their homes, work places and in their cars to show they are Ghanaians first before any other things follow.

Speaking on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Pius Enam Hadzide lamented that “honestly speaking, the partisan politics is becoming too much and so let’s begin to get together around the flag of Ghana”.

“We call it rally round the flag and let’s all see ourselves as Ghanaians first before our political parties, regions, religions and even our gender came into an existence. Let’s see ourselves as Ghanaians first. So on that day, it is flag resting day and I am sure it is 1st March”, he disclosed.

Touching on the ‘Rep The North’ aspect of the celebration of Ghana's independence day, this is what the Deputy Minister for Information said.

When you recalled the day the new Ya-Na was installed, you realised that Nana Addo, Prince Abudani I wore smock and he was representing the North and so we have decided that on that particular day of 6th March, we are all going to look for smocks and wear to represent the people of the Northern part of the country to mark the 62nd Independence Anniversary celebration,” he stated.

Mr. Enam-Hadzide said the anniversary parade will be made up of 30 contingents including security services, fire service, Customs, Immigration and Ghana Education Service (GES).The rest are other interest groups including the Nation Builders’ Corps (NABCO) trainees and the six newly created regions.
