NPP Won’t Be Complacent In 2020 - Sammi Awuku

The National Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku says the NPP will not be complacent in the 2020 general election as party machinery is ready to work earnestly to retain political power.

According to him, they are going to work hard and strengthen the base to retain power because 2020 is not a foregone conclusion for the party.

“We are going to show NDC where we were and where we are now and we welcome him (Mr. Mahama) to the policy stage, that is concept of ideas and once major intervention for the youth of this country,” he said.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, he stated that they are ready as a party to work earnestly to give Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo the most solid backing in the 2020 election.

Responding to former President Mahama’s comeback as a flagbearer on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), he said President Akufo-Addo is largely fulfilling all campaign promises, hence the party will not be complacent in 2020 elections.

He added that former President Mahama will have to answer certain questions to the people of Ghana now that he has been elected as a flagbearer.

According to him “Mr. John Mahama and the NDC should tell Ghanaians whether they will cancel the nurses and teacher trainees’ allowances, whether the free SHS policy will be scrapped among other major interventions under the NPP government".

“NDC in 2016 said, restoring nurses and teacher trainees’ allowances would collapse the economy, the NPP has restored the allowances, I would want to ask him whether he will scrap the allowances if elected in 2020? He said free SHS is not possible even though he is a beneficiary of same, he said, we should wait to elevate all the schools under trees before we implement free SHS. Today the NPP has implemented free SHS, Mr. Mahama should tell us whether free SHS should be put on hold or not,” Sammy Awuku asked.

He maintained that he is willing to make significant impact and improve upon his work to make the NPP an election winning machine.

He therefore congratulated former President Mahama and the NDC for a successful election.
