Leaked Tape: Ofosu-Ampofo Will Soon Apologize - Fmr Bantama MP Hints

Former Member of Parliament for Bantama constituency, Henry Kokofu has slammed the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, over a leaked tape in which he is purportedly charging his party members to take some incendiary actions against the Electoral Commissioner and the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In the leaked audio recording, a voice which has been associated with Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo could be heard telling the party members to "wage war" against the EC Boss, Jean Mensa and also make life uncomfortable for the NPP members.

”We must wage a relentless war on this EC Chair . . ." he said.

“We will go after them, but we will not go after them face-to-face. We have to use tactical operation to make life very uncomfortable for them. We will target some people and we will let the people know that their lives are in danger,” Ofosu-Ampofo allegedly said.

Following circulation of the leaked tape, the NDC Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi denied the contents of the tape describing it as "fake" and "doctored".

“The NDC states for the records that the statements and attributions contained on the said tape are concocted and false. They are inconsistent with the character and track record of Chairman Ofosu-Ampofo and do not reflect the values he has always stood for,” the NDC’s Director of communications Sammy Gyamfi said.

Few minutes later, the Deputy Communications Officer of the party in an interview with Kwasi Aboagye on Neat FM's 'Ghana Montie' contradicted the position of his boss, Sammy Gyamfi; saying "we the party [NDC communication] members are very happy of what our Chairman said and we will do exactly that. What he said is dear to our hearts that is why we clapped for him during the meeting which was recorded and leaked".

Addressing the issue on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme, Henry Kokofu asked the appropriate security agencies to take the matter up and investigate it thoroughly to unearth the truth.

He strongly believed the voice on the leaked tape is that of Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo saying "it won't last long for the man to come out and apologize publicly" and the NDC will be disgraced after they are exposed by Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo who, to him, will soon man up and take responsibility for his statements.
